Sei Whale
Balaenoptera borealis
Sei (pronounced "say" or "sigh") whales tend to be more elusive than other large whales, seeming to prefer deep offshore waters to the inshore areas frequented by other species. They also rarely form groups or schools, preferring to remain alone or in pairs. Younger, smaller whales rarely travel very far south, so sei whales are quite rare around Antarctica.
